Quick answer
What can an ecommerce business automate with AI?
An ecommerce business can automate where-is-my-order replies in Gorgias, multi-channel inventory sync between Shopify, Amazon Seller Central and a 3PL, and FBA restock and reimbursement checks. AI can also draft product descriptions and Amazon listings for review. Shopify, Seller Central, Klaviyo and ad spend data can be combined into a margin-by-SKU dashboard.
- WISMO tickets get an order and carrier tracking lookup with a drafted or sent reply
- Returns opened in Loop or AfterShip can trigger replacement orders, stock adjustments and 3PL notes
- Daily FBA reports flag lost, damaged or short-received units that may qualify for reimbursement
- Order exceptions like address failures, fraud flags and backorders land in one queue

Where ecommerce teams lose hours
Most ecommerce brands already have a good app stack. The time goes into the gaps between those apps, where a person checks one dashboard and updates another.
These are the jobs we hear about most:
- Where is my order (WISMO) tickets that need a tracking lookup and a polite reply
- Returns and exchanges that bounce between the helpdesk, the returns app and the warehouse
- Inventory counts drifting between Shopify, Amazon, a wholesale channel and the 3PL
- FBA restock planning, inbound shipment creation and chasing lost or damaged inventory reimbursements
- Order exceptions: address problems, split shipments, backorders and fraud holds
- Weekly reporting stitched together from Shopify, Seller Central, Klaviyo and ad accounts
02
Shopify automation and Amazon seller automation
Shopify gives you Shopify Flow and a large app store, and we use them where they fit. When a workflow crosses systems, for example a return in Loop that should create a replacement order, adjust stock in your inventory system and notify the 3PL, we build it in n8n, Make, Zapier or custom Python depending on volume and budget.
Amazon is a different world. Seller Central and the Selling Partner API expose orders, inventory, FBA shipments, settlement reports and reimbursements, but the data is spread across many reports. We automate the pulls, reconcile them with your own records and surface the exceptions, such as shipments received short or fees that look wrong, so someone can open a case.
WHAT WE BUILD
What we automate for ecommerce
Typical automations, each scoped and quoted at a fixed price after a free review.
WISMO auto-replies
When a where-is-my-order ticket arrives in Gorgias or Zendesk, the order and carrier tracking are looked up and an accurate reply is drafted or sent, with delivery exceptions escalated to an agent.
Returns and exchanges routing
A return opened in Loop or AfterShip triggers the right next step, such as a replacement order in Shopify, a stock adjustment and a note to the 3PL, based on reason code and item condition.
Multi-channel inventory sync
Stock levels from your inventory system or 3PL are pushed to Shopify, Amazon and wholesale channels on a schedule, with low-stock alerts sent to Slack.
FBA restock and reimbursement checks
Sales velocity and FBA inventory reports are pulled daily to suggest restock quantities and flag lost, damaged or short-received units that may qualify for a reimbursement case.
Order exception queue
Orders with address validation failures, fraud flags or backordered items are pulled into one queue with a suggested action and a customer message ready to send.
Product content drafts
From a supplier spec sheet, an AI step drafts Shopify descriptions and Amazon titles and bullets for your team to edit and approve.
Channel profit dashboard
Shopify, Seller Central settlement, Klaviyo and ad spend data are combined nightly into a Looker Studio or Power BI view of margin by SKU and channel.
03
AI agents for ecommerce support and operations
AI agents work well in ecommerce support because so many tickets follow a pattern. Connected to Gorgias, Zendesk or Re:amaze plus Shopify and your carrier data, an agent can look up an order, read the tracking status and draft or send a reply in your brand voice. Refund requests above a limit, angry customers and anything unclear go to a human.
On the operations side, agents can read supplier emails and PDFs to update expected ship dates on purchase orders, draft product descriptions and Amazon bullet points from a spec sheet for review, or summarize a week of reviews into recurring product issues.
04
Policies and constraints we design around
Marketing texts need prior express written consent under the TCPA, and email needs CAN-SPAM basics like a working unsubscribe. Klaviyo, Postscript and Attentive handle much of this, and we keep automations inside those tools' consent rules rather than sending around them.
Amazon has strict buyer-seller messaging rules and limits on what you can say in review requests, so we use the Request a Review feature or approved templates instead of custom outreach. We also keep API usage within each platform's rate limits so your store and seller account stay in good standing.
05
Tools we connect for online stores
Typical stacks include Shopify or Shopify Plus, Amazon Seller Central, Klaviyo for email and SMS, Gorgias for support, ShipStation or ShipBob for fulfillment, Loop Returns or AfterShip for returns and tracking, Recharge for subscriptions, inventory tools like Cin7 or Linnworks, and A2X with QuickBooks Online or Xero for accounting.
Reporting usually goes into Looker Studio or Power BI, combining store, marketplace, email and ad data so you can see contribution margin by SKU and channel instead of revenue alone.
06
How an ecommerce automation project works
We start with a free review of your stack and your busiest manual tasks. You show us your helpdesk, order flow and the reports you build by hand. We come back with a fixed-price scope that names each workflow, the tools involved and what success looks like.
Work ships in stages. A first stage might be WISMO automation in Gorgias or an inventory sync between Shopify and Amazon, tested on live orders with a person reviewing outputs. Once it runs cleanly through a busy week, we move to the next workflow. All accounts and code stay in your name.
07
What ecommerce automation costs
Each project gets a fixed quote after the free review. A single workflow, such as returns routing or a daily Amazon reimbursement check, typically takes 1 to 2 weeks. A broader project with support automation, inventory sync and a reporting dashboard typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.
If a Shopify app already does what you need for a small monthly fee, we will tell you that instead of building it. Custom work makes sense when apps do not talk to each other or your volume makes per-task pricing expensive.

FAQ
AI automation for Ecommerce questions
What can be automated in a Shopify store?
Common candidates are support replies for order status, returns routing, inventory sync across channels, order tagging and exception handling, and reporting. Shopify Flow covers simple in-store rules, and we add n8n, Make or custom code when a workflow crosses several apps.
Can you automate Amazon Seller Central tasks?
Many of them, through the Selling Partner API and scheduled reports. Typical examples are restock planning, inbound shipment tracking, reimbursement checks and settlement reconciliation. We follow Amazon's messaging and API policies.
Can an AI chatbot answer customer service tickets for my store?
Yes, for repeatable questions like order status, shipping times and return policy. The agent uses live order and tracking data and hands off refunds above your limit or anything sensitive to a person.
Do I need Shopify Plus for automation?
No. Most automations use the standard Shopify Admin API, which is available on regular plans. Some features, like certain checkout customizations, are limited to Plus, and we flag those during the review.
How long does an ecommerce automation project take?
A single workflow typically takes 1 to 2 weeks. Larger projects covering support, inventory and reporting typically take 4 to 8 weeks, delivered in stages.
Will automation break during peak season?
We design for your peak volume, add error alerts and retries, and avoid shipping big changes right before Black Friday or Prime Day. No system is immune to an app outage, so we also document a manual fallback.
